Day #1 of plan. Did well. Ran this morning on the treadmill for an hour, took a shower, went to the orthopod to get my knee looked at. He agrees it was likely a meniscus tear but a very minor one....the bottom line is that I am running pain free right now. Why scope it? The x-ray looked good; I have beautiful bones. And there was space there for cartilage...I am not bone on bone anywhere in my knees, which is great news too.

When I got home I jumped back on the treadmill and ran for another hour and 20 minutes, banking some time for later in the week when I won't have two hours to run.

My mileage will go up way too fast if I spend the whole two hours running. I am going to try hard to get some x-training in. I also gave myself extra time today for the ice bath, which I sat in for 20 minutes. As I get more fit I will be able to handle running 12 hours a week. As for now, I need to be careful. I went 13.6 miles today but that will decrease dramatically. I hope to average no more than 9 miles a day this week.

How does this work? I finally ran today, after two very LONG weeks off, on the treadmill. No knee pain, so I am very excited about that. Harder than I thought though! When I don't run, even for more than a few days, my body goes wacko...heart, blood pressure, weight, and autoimmune issues. So...I plan to run twice a day, very easy, and diet for now. A lower weight should be easier on my knees and slowing down and running twice a day should allow everything to heal up nicely before I start more serious training in December.

By December I want to have my mileage up to 60 and my weight down to 130. Then I'll be ready to go. I may even register for Boston! Either way, I definitely have a plan, today.

Yes, I actually weighed myself. Today was a bust; I got on the treadmill and tried to run more correctly (my left heel has been heading in, making me slightly pigeon toed on only one side). So....I was being really good. But tight. I stopped to stretch and ZOWIE. right lower flank pain in my back, which is threatening to get worse if I so much as breathe wrong.

I guess there are good days and bad days. I stretched and walked the rest of the hour. Hopefully a good nights sleep and back will be better, not worse.

Had a very hard time getting going this morning....It was a time when it really helped to have the two a day goal. Thanks to that, I stopped studying (which is not going well), and jumped on the treadmill for a fairly producttve 8 more miles. My back is still finicky, as are my knees. But I am now back on track for this week.

I meant to run 15 today over the course of two workouts, but only made it 14.1. Still that's good and I'm on track for the week...I'm planning to be short on time for the end of the week.

Should I be wearing a heart monitor? I never have. I guess I don't want to know.

It was a stressful day; running helped a lot.

E, good run. Just be careful about doing too many miles too fast. What is the doc saying about your heart issues? It sounds a little worrisome but I don't know anything. Eric might have some ideas if you haven't already talked to him.

So I basically caught up today. If I run 6 tomorrow, I will have 50 for the week. Somehow I am getting out of shape though. And two-a-days are gone bye-bye...yup. Being in Arizona is keeping me a lot busier than I thought. And my fam is coming tonight so I won't want to leave them to run tomorrow, maybe I will get up early to study.

I am so sore! And I realized my comfort level is about 10:34 miles. Although I haven't figured out how to get the heart monitor to work with the Garmin yet. I think I need a software reinstall.

Oh, I did run one hundred yards pretty fast...it was this dog....

Tired and slow but hey, I've ran every day this week so far. Oh, and Mark....I did check my heart rate at the end and it was like 131 and heading down. Hey E, nice weekday run and way to keep it up. You should definitely keep track of every little bit. It adds up after a while and if you ran 'em you should write 'em down. Were you still running when you checked your heart rate? Mine falls off immediately as soon as I stop or even slow down.

A good run today. I actually felt better and would have gone further if I wasn't in my intense study mode. I did it in about 9:30 a mile. I've been trying to lean forward a little, land more on the balls of my feet, take smaller stepsm run like a Kenyan, Ryan Hall, the Chi chicks, whatever. Except....aobut 1/10 as fast, ha. But it does help when I get aches and pains. Much easier on the joints, although it requires different movement, different fitness. What do you do?

Six miles in one hour, but outside. I'll take that while I can get it as I go home in three days back to 18 degree weather with no sidewalk availability. It isn't just the cold; I don't like running in the middle of the street. So. I'm enjoying this while I can. And I am getting so out of shape! I feel like I had a hard workout, yud.

I took off past Power on Pecos this morning, just to see how far it goes. It goes! I don't know why but it's so cool to just look down a long lonely road in the middle of nowhere and know I can't see the end. It's like hope; there is a lot of work to do, and that is the good news. Maybe I'm just grateful to be alive, grateful to be running, grateful for the Arizona sun and my brother for taking care of me here. (He thinks I'm studying right now).  Oh my. I could go on and on.

Yes, they were all fast. 7.3 in an hour on the treadmill. I was going to finish slow but had to stop to take son to school who missed the bus. Never got back on. But I intend to finish tonight...I always have a hard time doing two a days but I think that will be the trick to help lose weight, since I can't find the discipline to slow down. I either don't run or I run too fast...or slow is as fast as I can when I'm having heart issues. Looking for a coach for between now and Boston. I think I have one....but he wants to marry me in Vegas. (I met him in St. George).  Hmmmm. He's good though with a great reputation (coaching reputation). As long as I can keep it an online coaching relationship we should be fine. Right???

 I feel great today!

I added my other 6.7 on. I got back, wanting to finish my 10, and just kept going. A rare great running day for me. Either my treadmill is massively cheating and making me look good or I had a good day.

EZ day, treadmill. All my running friends (1.7), think I am crazy to only do treadmill. I think they are crazy to run outside in under 30 degree weather. My goal is to wear out my treadmill before it wears out me. So far I've turned the faster button into a hole and I have tons of water bottle lids on the deck thinger (I'm very proud of those; they are my treadmill trophies). I've been online looking at others' LSAT scores. Surprisingly, all those who do really well also put in months of study and do 30+ LSAT prep tests..... and other stuff I didn't do, thinking I was working harder than everyone else. Maybe the stress of waiting for my score (it's going to be really close, even if I did much better than I think), will keep me pounding out the miles. Stress. It's what's for life.

Hey, my miles right now are 33.3! Good stuff.

I have a lot of hip pain this morning. I don't want to end up like my little sister with a stress fracture and an orthopod telling her no more marathons so I walked or jogged the last 3 miles. Hurting.

I think I have a coach. Beyondperformance.org. I talked to him on the phone this morning; I had met him earlier at the StG marathon. I think he can get me to 3:45 or 3:40 for Boston and then 3:33:33 for late summer. That's what I am hoping for, shooting for. It's been a great week; my hopes are high. I haven't been outside yet though....that will be truth time. Tuesday it gets up over 30 degrees so I will go outside that day.

Then I came back and ate and ate and ate beans until 4:30 when husband came home early, "why are you home early?", "It's the doctor/dinner party, remember?" Woops, I sort of forgot. Crammed myself into skirt, which skirt's waist was suddenly way way too tight. I sort of held my breath for the next four hours of smiling, laughing, and EATING. I was supposed to run between 6 and 6.1 at 1% incline for 6 miles and then stretch "good". Tomorrow is off. Thursday I get to run hard, sort of. I ran all but a mile of it between 6.4 and 7...still felt unworked. But I know there will be days that will be way too hard, right?

The stretching was good and I ventured to some weights for my arms, since I didn't do it yesterday. I'm having a hard time "trusting the plan" as my coach has asked me to do.

In the overall plan, the miles crescendo nicely, eventually up to 60 a week for a few weeks, then back down before Boston. But this week is my first week and it's only 30. I wonder if he thinks I am A) 30 and B) out of shape.

I am very hard to coach so I am trying to be good. Hey. If I wasn't I would have ran 11 today in 100 minutes. But the incline is good. I should always have an incline on my treadmill.

K, the fast miles weren't fast, but they felt it. I went to the gym and used their treadmill; it doesn't cheat like mine. It was my "key run", and boy was it hard doing on holiday diet, holiday virus, holiday stress, and holiday sleep.Very tough workout for me.  If I had to run a marathon today I would walk 15 miles of it, very slowly.

Hopefully my other key runs will be much easier. There is something to be said for running hard when you don't feel like it though. It's easy to do a great workout when I feel like it, but who's to say I'm going to have a good day come race time?

Ran outside; it was so cold. The thermometer said 28 but there was a wind and it felt much colder. I used those "hotties" hand warmers inside my gloves and my fingers were still frozen by the time I finished running down the first hill from my house. By the time I got home my lips were so cold that talking was like after getting numbed up at the dentist.

Next time I will wear the winter tights and gloves over my gloves, My head and torso were warm enough. I don't run outside enough to know how to do it but I am learning. All next week is Arizona though!

But it was so fun getting outside, not sweating, actually going somewhere.

According to my plan I should have been finishing at 1:19:34, and that it was supposed to be "easy". I had a rough time ever being at the pace I was supposed to be as it was very hilly, so I went way faster on the downhills, (7:31) and way slower on the uphills (11+). Overall though I did it in 1:16:53, so too fast, and not easy. I was cold though and couldn't slow down much. The best news is my heart did not do the flip flop crash it often does in the shower, (neurocardiogenic syncope); I've learned to reach over and turn it much colder as soon as I start to feel symptoms and it completely fixes the problem so I don't have the hours of lethargy and near disorientation. And no need for the medication, at least not for that!

So, you are coming to Arizona?? Where will be? Are you running PF Changs?

E, good run, you ran yours at almost exactly the same pace I did on Saturday. I know that isn't fast for you but to me it is a good pace and it is good to see you swinging back into it. I'm going to get us all registered for London's Run in the next day or two. Everybody is confirmed now.

Arizona!

Missed yesterday's five miler due to traveling snafus; made it up today running around my house looking for a gym. By the time I found one it had been at least 2.5 miles.  I then did my key run treadmill workout (basically slow until five 3 minute bursts at 6.8 mph and 3% incline). I then jogged back home in perfect running weather, about 55 degrees, a slight breeze.

Welcome to the Valley of the Sun. We had sun until this morning, hoping to get it back by tomorrow or Thursday. Good workout too. That's a lot of miles for supposedly starting out slow.

Jogged home from the gym, where I lifted weights. Someone has got to stop me from eating!
